How to do A/B Testing on Your eBay Listings!

By setting up and tracking A/B Testing with Sellebrity, it is very easy to determine how effectively your various template designs and/or keywords are driving your visitors to make purchases.

In A/B testing, you unleash two different versions of a keyword, advertisement, website, web/landing page, banner design or variable and see which performs the best. You test version A vs. version B to see how different versions perform.

It is generally accepted that the best format for selling is to put the image on the left and the title and description on the right. But .. what else can be done? Let’s find out.

Here are the steps how to do A/B testing with Sellebrity.

What is a “Goal?”

A Goal is a page on your web site that a visitor reaches once they have completed a desired action. In this case, landing on the eBay item page.

1. Create two separate fixed-price listings.

These listings should be very different, such as using completely different themes or arranging images in completely different ways (e.g. top vs. bottom). Each pass-through, you will be changing a little bit less, until you are changing single words.

Also, you don’t have to limit the experiment to just two listings. You can do it on several at a time. (Would this be called A/B/C/D/E testing?)

2. Create one goal for each listing.

Go to your “Goals” tab, and click “setup” and then “create new goal.” in this case the goal is for them to land on the page. see image below. Add name and item number, and don’t forget the asterisk wild cards (*). Check the “Active” and “More than Once” boxes.

The wild card (*) allows any crazy URL’s with the item number in it to be tracked.  Here’s an example of something that WILL register correctly.  (See the item number 400095028590 in there?)

Also, the “More than Once” box you definitely want to check, otherwise it will not record visitors that come back to that listing within their “session”, which is 30 minutes from the first visit.

3. View Your Results

The results should look something like this.

4. Rinse and Repeat

Each account can only hold so many goals, so you will want to delete all the old goals and then make new ones. The new goals should have unique names. You will always be able to look up your old goals if you do date-range searches.

5. Participate in our forum

Please consider sharing the results with our Community Forum. We hope that this blog article will introduce many experiments with fascinating results. The whole reason that we have a forum is for everyone to work together to find out the best template formats in the world for each situation!
