Tutorial: How to Find the Best Days and Times to List

Having trouble using the available tools to find the the best days and times to list on eBay?

It is easy with Sellebrity Analytics.  This short article will show you how to do so — using an actual example from an eBay seller.  His eBay names were changed for the sake of publication.

Not all types of auctions follow the same trends.  Everyone is different. And different auction types factor in, such as Fixed Price or regular auctions.

Here are some examples for one particular seller, that deals only Fixed-Price or eBay Store items.

First: The Best Day

When you join, after 30 days or so you can spot trends.

This seller should sell most of his stuff on Sundays. Do you agree?

Next: The Best Times of Day

More analysis shows that his visitor traffic peaks at 8pm CST (6pm PST) on Sundays.  However, I happen to know him personally — and he insists on selling only during the week, since he spends weekends with his family.

Getting the hours takes a few clicks but it is still easy.

  1. Configure your dashboard to include the Visitor widget. It is there by default.
  2. For the root date, that is, the date you want to compare to, just use the pull-down in the upper-right hand corner. Click “Custom date range”.
  3. For the comparison date, use the pull-down inside the widget. See below.
  4. Bookmark the page and use it as a starting point next time.  (This may require doing a “View Frame in New Window” first.)
  5. Rinse and Repeat for each auction account that you use.  Have fun!

Step 2: In the upper-right corner.

Step 2-4: Create Graph and Save As Bookmark. (Oops! It should say 12pm, not 12am.)

How Can This Seller Improve?

I emailed the seller after writing this article and told him, if he wants to spend more time with his family, then take Saturdays off.  List only on Sundays in the evening.  Then, list mostly from Monday through Friday from 8am – 12am.  Wrap up all sales by 2pm – and spend the rest of the time with family.
